Oz Griebel takes unpaid leave of absence from the organization to run for Governor

HARTFORD – Thursday, January 28 – Ted Sergi has agreed to lead the MetroHartford Alliance as Interim CEO beginning Thursday, February 4, filling in for President and CEO Oz Griebel.  The Alliance and Mr. Griebel have agreed to an unpaid leave of absence from his position as he runs for Governor of the State of Connecticut. Mr. Sergi will remain as Interim CEO of the Alliance for as long as Mr. Griebel’s gubernatorial campaign continues.

The former President of the Connecticut Science Center and former State Commissioner of Education, Ted Sergi brings over 40 years of public service experience to the Alliance.  He was a member of the Alliance board from 2003 to 2008 and continues as an advocate of the Hartford Region.

“The Alliance remains open for business as usual and with Ted as Interim CEO, the organization’s future is indeed very bright,” Chuck Shivery, Alliance Board Chair and Chairman, President and CEO of Northeast Utilities added.  “We are confident that the Alliance will successfully sustain the Region’s progress on numerous fronts and continue to compete aggressively and successfully for jobs, capital, and talent for the Hartford Region.”

“Oz’s vigorous leadership over the past nine years has been a key component in making the Alliance one of the country’s preeminent business and economic development organizations,” Mr. Shivery continued.  “He has built a solid team of professionals with the ability and passion to continue to drive the Alliance to ever greater accomplishments in 2010 and beyond. As Oz embarks on the campaign trail, he does so knowing the organization he helped create is in fine hands.”
