“Montgomery College values its partnerships with businesses and community organizations,” said Dr. Hercules Pinkney, interim president of Montgomery College. “Through their donations, MAR and Hughes ensure that two of our talented students will receive much-needed financial support for their education. I applaud the Chamber for its long-term commitment to Montgomery College and our students.”
The scholarships, which were provided through the Montgomery College Foundation, were awarded to Ronald McFarland, a computer science major, and Zulqarnain Jamal, a nuclear engineering major. McFarland and Zulgarnain will be honored at GGCC’s 60th anniversary celebration on December 3, 2009.
The Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce represents over 380 businesses in Montgomery County and is a strong supporter of education and workforce development at Montgomery College. Through its annual golf tournament, the GGCC partners with its members to provide scholarship funds to the Montgomery College Foundation, which awards more than one million dollars in scholarship support to Montgomery College students each year. This is the 10th year that the GGCC has supported scholarships with the Montgomery College Foundation.
In addition to its support of the Foundation, GGCC supports the plans for a Bioscience Education Center on the Germantown Campus of Montgomery College. Construction is scheduled to start on the building in 2010.
