Gables Recognized for Achievements in Energy Efficiency and Sustainability
ATLANTA – February 4, 2010 – The Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association and Southface Energy Institute named Gables Residential EarthCraft Multifamily Developer of the Year at an awards ceremony held at Phillips Arena on January 29, 2010. More than 250 EarthCraft builders, contractors, designers, architects and sponsors gathered at the event held in the country’s first LEED-certified sports arena.
Gables received this honor for its market-leading development efforts in creating residential communities designed to meet the energy efficiency and sustainability standards of the EarthCraft Multifamily Certification program. Gables Midtown, one of four Gables communities recognized during the awards presentation, has the distinction of being the first high-rise residential project in the Southeast to attain both an EarthCraft Certification and an EPA Energy Star Qualified Home Certification. The high standards of these programs ensure that residents of the Gables Midtown community enjoy superior energy savings and efficiency and better air quality in their environmentally friendly apartment homes. “Gables continues to set the standard for multifamily development by taking advantage of the resources and technical assistance available to builders through the EarthCraft program.” said Tyler Jones, EarthCraft Program Manager.
Gables has been designing and building sustainable projects for the past four years in all of its major markets. Gables’ EarthCraft Certified communities in Atlanta are Gables Midtown, Gables 820 West, Gables Sheridan and Gables Century Center, a total of nearly 1,300 residential units. “Gables corporate mission of ‘Taking care of the Way People Live’ extends far beyond quality construction and high levels of customer service; it incorporates the day-to-day lifestyle of our residents and their desire for responsible living and care for our environment. With this in mind we will continue to seek ways to incorporate sustainable building practices into our communities,” said Dave Skelton, VP Investments Operations, Gables Residential. “We appreciate the honor of winning this award and look forward to working with Southface and EarthCraft on future projects.”
